Something brushed up my foot as I walked down the stairs.
I know it is silly, I shouldn't be so tense.
The cellar is really not the wildest room here.
Try the attic one day and you'll see what I mean.
Something slithered past me, I'm not going crazy.
There was a hushed whistle just a minute ago.
Wait, don't leave me here, I am going with you!
I am not a chicken! I want to protect you…
Did you feel the cold air from the north wall just now?
Of course that I'm not scared! I'm just asking, that's all.
We should have brought a torch, would have been easier
Than tripping on our feet and squinting in the dark.
Is it my fault really, if the lights aren't working?
The wind is now so strong, the neighbourhood is dark.
It was your idea to come down here, besides.
So you go on ahead and tell me what you see.
Something hissed in the dark, I heard it loud and clear.
Why did I follow her down the stairs anyway?
She always feels the need to search the house at night
To explore and scout out all those dark spooky rooms.
Something breathed on my back, I stop and I listen
My eyes trying to see her figure in the dark
Heart thumping, I move up towards the back some more
The stairs are way too far… and I can't leave her here.
All I wanted was milk, a story and my bed…
But no! She couldn't wait to show me her last find.
'It's fun!' she told me then, with her most roguish smile
Now I wish I had not walked down the stairs at all.
Lightning lights up the room, sheds some light fleetingly
All I see are the toys, furniture and cobwebs
Thunder burst all around and echoes in my mind
A shadow on the wall looks at me in the dark.
Something touched my shoulder as I sat here waiting
My heart froze on the spot and my legs wouldn't move
'Where are you?' I whisper, hoping that it was her
But the hand is bony, not at all soft and warm.
Something whispered my name and my breathing stopped dead
My hair now tries to stand all alone on my head
My legs at last awake and take me far from here
But I stumble over and bump into the wall.
I try to rise and scream, but the hand catches me
My throat is now too tight to let out any sound
As sweat pearls on my face and shivers run through me
I hear her impish laugh behind me in the dark
A flashlight meets my eyes as she squats next to me
In her arms, I now see a lifeless skeleton
'I wasn't scared at all… Was just playing along'
I shrug, getting back up and hug her playfully.

Scary piece, I like and don't like the light hearted end.. in a way I wanted to be super freaked at the end and in another way I was so damn relieved it wasn't a monster LOL..

Interesting. Though, I must admit, the idea of a prank was in my mind while I was reading it. So, the ending was sort of expected. It would have been nice to have a skeleton down there, but I see what you were saying (about it needing to be longer if it was a real "living" skeleton).
And how child-like... "I wasn't scared at all..." after she could plainly see he was. Nice touch.

To understand, you must stop and feel. Listen to your heart for it cannot tell a lie.
I'm guessing the prank idea sprung up right away cause maybe you'd be one to pull a prank like that... Huh? Hehehe...
I was, in truth, going to make it a real skeleton at first, when i started writting it; but as i got towards the end, it already was so long, i decided not to. Then you end up with a whole other story line. I suppose i could have made it a 2 parter...
Thanks.
