All right, we pushed it and pushed it, and it finally gave in... For the past month or so, our computer had been shutting off without warning for no reason that we could see, but today, it finally stopped working for good... My dear hubby booted it this morning and it was okay, though it shut itself off once, but then he put it in sleep mode while watching the Olympics, and when I tried to take it out of sleep mode, the poor thing went into a coma, lol. It wouldn't get out of sleep mode.
When I tried rebooting it, I got the dreaded "system boot failure" message. Evidently, the hard drive is busted. Grrrrr...
We're at my parents' right now, for the afternoon, so I'm taking the opportunity to let everybody know I may not be on for some time. My brother is going to lend us his very old laptop, which overheats easily and might not be able to handle much, so I'll not be soliciting it too much (mostly to write and do some online research for my stories).
I've almost finished the next chapter of The Choice, but I'll not be able to post it for a while, either... Depends on how the loaned laptop handles itself.
Fortunately, last night, I did a backup of all my newest files, so I'm up to date with that and I don't think I've lost anything important. I've a second hard drive, separate from the one on which Windows runs, on which my pictures are stored as well. Hopefully, that one didn't fry, because that's my big drive, theonly one on which I can store anything sizeable. The small Windows drive was partitioned C and D and all my Word documents were saved on the D partition, so I've obviously lost those, lol. But I've also an external drive on which I back documents and images up regularly, and I did just that last night (Thank goodness for backups!
) Must have had a premonition or something.
Anyway, I see that I've hundreds of messages and devs again. If I don't get back on for some time, I may have to delete everthing... at least journals, faves messages and polls. For the rest, I'll see. I'm going to try and go through some of the devs now, but I can't very well hog the comp here, lol.
