"The past is only the present become invisible and mute; and because it is invisible and mute, its memorized glances and its murmurs are infinitely precious. We are tomorrow's past." -- Mary Webb

What I love most of all, is to walk around or sit around ancient or medieval ruins and imagine the people who built them and live around them... If, for example, you've sat in the ruins of a Roman theater and could almost see or hear the Romans as they watched or commented the play 2000 years ago, then you know what I mean... :aww:

:hmm: In this collection, I'm going to feature deviations which show remnants of prehistory, ancient times, medieval times and the modern era, but I'm also going to have a separate category (which I'll call "present times") for things that either come to us from the past and are still being used nowadays, or were made during our time to emulate or explain it. Now, if the deviations didn't mention the era and such, I tried guessing, but I'm no expert, so don't hold it against me if I guessed wrong. And, yes, I've placed some classical statues in the modern eras' section, but that was because, as far as I could tell, they were not original, but copies that were made for decoration and such. ;)

Let us explore the past here, through the eyes of the deviants who have portrayed it. Follow me on a journey through time, as we watch it unfold in front of our eyes. I hope you enjoy the journey. And, as usual, don't forget to visit the artists who submitted those beautiful deviations. :aww:

Sorry, I just see your message now. :( We don't get news messages sent to our message box, which doesn't make any sense...

You can use the quote for anything you wish. I found it on a quote site on the Internet, actually.

I'm glad you liked the article. And I hope your assignement went well. :aww: I like how you worked the text.

I am very honored to have The Old Mill in Summer chosen to be featured among the wonderful photographs in your Journey Into The Past, Modern Era. There are many beautiful photographs to begin a fun and educational journey into the past. What a wonderful idea! Thanks again for featuring one of my Old Mill photos. I truly love the place and photograph it often. As you mention in your article, I can imagine the many people who have walked the bridges and climbed the stairs as well as those who have swam the lakes in days past, as I enjoy the sunshine and shade trees, and sounds and sights of birds, animals and reptiles.

Oh my... so sorry for replying so late to your message. I was out of town when you left it here and was gone for 3 weeks and then I never checked back on the news article to see if anyone had left a comment (I wish we would get messages from news articles in our message centre like all the other ones, but sadly, we don't...).

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the journey and I hope you found it entertaining and that it left you with the desire to find out more about the many places featured. :D And you are very welcome for my including your old mill. :aww:

:hmm: Sure, I'll have a cup of coffee. With LOTS of cream and at least 2 lumps of sugar, thank you. :giggle:
